Moving across different stylistic registers, from raw, gestural distortion to a cubist fracturing of form, Soysa’s faces splinter into planes of color and jagged line, revealing the messy, contradictory landscape of feelings that lies beneath every human expression. The artist’s unrestrained brushstrokes embrace a deliberate unrefinement, resisting the polish of a finished portrait.
