Horton Plains is unlike any other national park in Sri Lanka. At 2,100 metres above sea level, wrapped in cloud forest and rolling wet grasslands, it feels like a different country entirely and the view from World's End makes you feel like you are standing at the edge of the earth. Located in the Central Province within the Nuwara Eliya District, Horton Plains National Park lies at the eastern boundary of the Upper Montane Forest Range, spanning elevations from 1,500 to 2,524 metres. The plateau is home to the second and third highest peaks in Sri Lanka: Kirigalpoththa at 2,389 metres and Totupolakanda at 2,357 metres. The Central Highlands of Sri Lanka, which includes Horton Plains, was recognised as a Mixed Cultural and Natural World Heritage Site on 2 August 2010. The park covers 3,160 hectares - roughly 8% of all upper montane forests and grasslands remaining in Sri Lanka.
