The Tower of Slowness

The Tower of Slowness

Join contemporary artist Rirkrit Tiravanija for a conversation reflecting on the notion of expanded architecture. In his presentation, Rirkrit will examine the relationship between people and architecture: through using, inhabiting, and moving through space; by spending time, associating, and simply being in it. Rirkrit will introduce these ideas through a presentation of his past and present work, offering the audience opportunity to explore and examine the theories behind the unique work of this globally renowned artist. Ahead of this talk, Rirkrit will lead a workshop on his methods for understanding landscapes by moving slowly through the surroundings of the site and situating oneself in relation to the architecture. Rirkrit is best known for his intimate, participatory installations that revolve around personal and shared communal traditions. He continually challenges and expands the social dimension of art, inviting people from all walks of life to inhabit the special and personal spaces that he constructs and to communally engage in shared rituals and actions.
