The Other Within

The Other Within

aradise Road Galleries is pleased to present ‘The Other Within’ by artist Lahiru Sandaruwan. In this new body of work, Lahiru Sandaruwan expands his established visual language into larger, more emotionally charged compositions. The increased scale heightens the physical and psychological intensity of each image. The exhibition is rooted from a difficult personal experience: the hacking of his online identity, which left him in a prolonged state of anxiety and dislocation. In response, he turned to art as a means of regaining stillness and control. His recognisable abstract figures re-emerge with renewed urgency, built through layered paint and newspaper collages. Often depicting tension—embracing or constricting one another—they reflect themes of control, vulnerability, and fractured identity. The newspaper collages draw from the constant stream of global information, transforming it to an overwhelming reflection of self. A related series of prints depicts these concerns. Join us for an exclusive preview on Thursday, 21 May 2026 from 6-8 PM. The exhibition will be on display until 11 June 2026 from 10am to Midnight at Paradise Road Galleries, 2 Alfred House Road, Colombo 3.
