The Cinnamon Story
The Cinnamon Story
You will travel by lorry into the inland villages of Ahangama, passing through scenic paddy fields to reach cinnamon cultivations. Here, you will taste, touch, and witness the journey of cinnamon from bark to spice. Learning its story, as you make your way to Niluka's home. The experience continues at Niluka’s home, where you will make your own incense sticks and see the process of extracting cinnamon oil, leaving with their handmade cinnamon as a reminder of the land and its people. This experience is hosted by Niluka Dilrukshi Gunasekara from Andugoda, a mother of 3 and incense maker, alongside her husband Sanath Padukkage, whose family has long worked in a traditional cinnamon hut crafting cinnamon for cooking, oils, and incense. As part of the experience, you will enjoy a short walk through a scenic paddy field. For your comfort, we recommend wearing suitable shoes, especially if you are not familiar with this kind of terrain.
